VIDC allocates ₹340 crore for concrete canal lining to eliminate 35% transit seepage loss and deliver tail-end irrigation in Yavatmal.
The Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation (VIDC), Nagpur, has expedited the concrete lining and distributary modernization works on the Bembla River Project and Lower Wardha Project.
Project Scope & Farmer Impact - Transit Loss Prevention: Unlined canals in black cotton soils currently lose up to 35% of released water through deep soil cracks and seepage before reaching tail-end fields. - Tail-End Benefit: Concrete lining ensures that over 24,000 hectares of tail-end agricultural land in Babhulgaon, Kalamb, and Ralegaon talukas receive their designated water rotation for Rabi pulses. - Automated Sluice Gates: Installation of telemetry-controlled gates allows remote monitoring of discharge rates from the project headquarters.
