Dr. PDKV Akola Announces Release of Drought-Tolerant Chickpea Variety 'PDKV Kanchan'

New bold desi chickpea variety matures in 95 days, yielding 12 to 14 quintals/ha under single protective irrigation in Vidarbha soils.
The State Seed Sub-Committee for Agricultural Crops has formally approved the commercial release of PDKV Kanchan (AKG-1303), a high-yielding, drought-tolerant chickpea variety developed by pulse breeders at Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola.
Agronomic Highlights of PDKV Kanchan - Early Maturity (95–100 Days): Matures 10 to 15 days earlier than traditional varieties, successfully evading terminal heat stress in late February. - High Wilt Resistance: Displays over 90% field resistance to Fusarium wilt (मर रोग) and root rot. - Yield Potential: Averages 12 to 14 quintals per hectare under rainfed dryland conditions, increasing to 18 quintals per hectare with two protective irrigations.
