The Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority (MWRRA), Mumbai, has issued an order regulating water distribution quotas in the Upper Godavari basin following seasonal reservoir audits.
Regulatory Mandates - Statutory Priority Enforced: Under Section 12 of the MWRRA Act, drinking water holds 1st priority and agricultural irrigation holds 2nd priority over industrial usage. - Industrial Cutbacks: Industrial manufacturing units drawing raw water from the Darna, Gangapur, and Chankapur dam complexes face a 20% quota reduction. - Farmer Water Security: Preserved water quotas ensure scheduled canal delivery to rabi vegetable, onion, and grain farmers in Nashik and Ahmednagar districts.
