Key Census Findings for Maharashtra - Top National Ranking: Maharashtra ranks first in India for the number of operational dug wells (विहीर) and individual on-farm water storage ponds (शेततळे). - Groundwater Dominance: Over 82% of the state's minor irrigation potential is created through farmer-owned decentralized wells and lift mechanisms. - Solar Adoption: The state leads in replacing diesel pumps with grid-connected and standalone solar pumping units, lowering agricultural carbon intensity.
