State cabinet clears special ₹1,500 crore allocation for deepening nalas, desilting check dams, and farm pond convergence across 5,000 rainfed villages.
The Maharashtra State Cabinet has approved a special financial envelope of ₹1,500 Crores under the Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan 2.0 (जलयुक्त शिवार अभियान २.०) to expedite decentralized water conservation works across drought-vulnerable talukas of Vidarbha and Marathwada.
Key Cabinet Decisions & Target Regions - Focus Districts: Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Yavatmal, Washim, Beed, Jalna, and Dharashiv. - Works Included: Continuous contour trenching (CCT), desilting of percolation tanks (पाझर तलाव गाळ काढणे), deepening and widening of natural streams (नाला सरळीकरण/खोलीकरण), and cement nala bund repairs. - Convergence with MGNREGA: Village gram panchayats are authorized to utilize employment guarantee funds for manual excavation, ensuring wage employment for local farm labor during the dry window.
Official Guidelines for Gram Panchayats 1. All water storage structures must be mapped using GIS and geo-tagged before and after excavation. 2. Silt excavated from village tanks will be provided free of cost to local farmers to enrich farm soil organic matter. 3. Village-level Water Conservation Committees headed by the Sarpanch will supervise transparent execution.
