Agronomists and horticulturists at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Selsura, Wardha, have published findings from multi-location field demonstrations on Sub-Surface Drip Irrigation (SDI) in sweet lime (मोसंबी) and Nagpur orange (संत्रा) orchards.
Why Sub-Surface Drip Excels in Vidarbha - Zero Surface Evaporation: Drip laterals are buried 20 cm below the soil line along the root zone, delivering moisture directly to feeding roots without evaporation loss under scorching heat. - Disease Prevention: Keeps the tree trunk and soil surface dry, arresting *Phytophthora* collar rot and gummosis (डिंक्या रोग) that decimates citrus trees under surface flood irrigation. - Subsidy Eligibility: Farmers can claim standard micro-irrigation subsidies for SDI lateral installations on the MahaDBT portal.
