The Groundwater Surveys and Development Agency (GSDA), Pune, has submitted its initial post-monsoon groundwater assessment report to the Maharashtra Revenue and Agriculture departments, flagging groundwater depletion in 42 talukas.
Survey Highlights & High-Risk Zones - Most Impacted Districts: Dharashiv, Latur, Beed, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Buldhana (Khamgaon, Malkapur), and Yavatmal (Ralegaon, Ghatanji). - Depletion Threshold: More than 350 observation wells recorded static water levels falling between 1.0 and 2.5 meters deeper compared to the 5-year average. - Administrative Directives: Local district administrations have been directed to strictly regulate commercial borewell drilling and ensure drinking water priority for rural habitations.
